Betsy O’Malley, PhD

Dr. O’Malley is an environmental scientist specializing in fisheries and aquatic resources. She received her PhD from the University of Maine in Wildlife Ecology with an emphasis in fisheries. Dr. O’Malley has worked on a variety of projects that combine field studies, laboratory studies, and computer modeling. Many of her projects involved collaboration with state/provincial and federal agencies, lake associations, non-profit organizations, tribal entities, and academics. Dr. O’Malley has been involved with numerous environmental studies at hydroelectric projects including desktop entrainment studies, macroinvertebrate assessments, littoral zone surveys, water quality studies, freshwater mussel relocations, and thermal refugia studies, among others. Dr. O’Malley has also worked for the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment in France developing large-scale population models to explore the effect of climate change on diadromous species distributions throughout coastal Europe. Most recently, she has developed population models to explore dam passage scenarios for alewife recovery on the east coast of the U.S.
