NHA Statement on Vital Hydropower Priorities Left out of House Spending Bill, and Fight to Include them in Senate Version

Washington, D.C. — Earlier today, the House passed its budget and tax package, which notably excluded several key hydropower priorities, including vital tax credits for construction of new hydropower and upgrades to existing facilities. It now heads to the Senate.

Malcolm Woolf, president and CEO of the National Hydropower Association (NHA), released the following statement in response to the bill’s passage:

“There is a significant gap between President Trump’s recognition of hydropower as being essential to energy dominance and the tax package enacted by the House. NHA remains committed to bridging this gap, as the bill is inevitably modified by the U.S. Senate.

“With roughly 40% of the existing hydropower fleet facing license expiration, the next four years will be critical in determining whether the nation maintains and enhances our existing hydropower fleet, which currently provides reliable, secure, baseload electricity to an estimated 25 million American homes and businesses.”
