Montreal, November 15, 2025 – REIVAX North America has successfully commissioned its advanced RTVX Power solution, a fully integrated Excitation and Governor system, on three Kaplan hydroelectric units totaling 122 MVA in the Pacific Northwest, USA.
This project marks a major milestone in REIVAX’s ongoing commitment to modernize hydroelectric power generation with intelligent, reliable, and operator-friendly control systems. By merging excitation and governor functions within a single hardware platform, the RTVX Power solution minimizes failure points, enhances system reliability, and simplifies day-to-day operation for plant personnel.
“Our mission has always been to make control systems that are as dependable as they are easy to use,” said Mike Wallin, President & CEO at REIVAX North America. “By combining both excitation and governor functions into one integrated platform, we’re helping our customers achieve higher reliability, simpler maintenance, and improved long-term performance.”

INTERGRATED CONTROL FOR RELIABILITY AND SIMPLICITY
At the heart of the project is the combined control module, which unites the exciter and governor functions into a single, cohesive system. This streamlined architecture eliminates the number of components, reduces maintenance and spare parts needs, and ensures a cleaner, more efficient control environment.
INTUITIVE HUMAN-MACHINE INTERFACE
Another key highlight is REIVAX’s user-focused Human-Machine Interface (HMI). The 15-inch color touchscreen provides operators with a clear, unified view of both systems, making it simple to monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment—without any programming expertise.
“The intuitive design of our HMI makes a real difference in daily operations,” added Derek Monk, Vice President of Sales at REIVAX North America. “Operators can manage both excitation and governor systems from a single screen.”
BUILT-IN REDUNDANCY AND RAPID MAINTENANCE
The RTVX Power system includes twin bridges in full redundancy, ensuring maximum uptime. In the unlikely event of a bridge failure, the system performs an instantaneous, bumpless transfer of the full load to the standby bridge. Thanks to the withdrawable racking system, a bridge can be replaced in less than 30 minutes, minimizing downtime. Each installation also includes a complete spare bridge assembly for added assurance.
ENHANCED SAFETY THROUGH INNOVATION
Safety remains a top priority for REIVAX. The company’s proprietary Mechanical Overspeed Protection Device uses centrifugal force technology to trigger both a hydraulic emergency stop of the turbine and an electrical trip signal to the controller.

ADAPTIVE CONTROL FOR KAPLAN TURBINES
The RTVX Power Line incorporates advanced adaptive control features designed specifically for Kaplan turbines. The system automatically optimizes head and gate operating points based on runner blade feedback, reduces dead-band movement, and quickly detects frequency and power disturbances—delivering smooth, stable, and efficient turbine operation.
This successful commissioning reinforces REIVAX’s leadership in high-performance hydroelectric control technology, further expanding its footprint across North America’s renewable energy landscape.
